At Heatherwood School there is a compulsory school uniform. A uniform dress code reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the school community and assists in developing pride in representing their school. Issues of equality, health and safety and expense are also factors that contribute to the establishment of the Dress Code.

  • To promote equality amongst all students.
  • To further develop a sense of pride in, and identification with our school.
  • To provide durable clothing that is cost effective and practical for our school environment.
  • To maintain and enhance the positive image of the school in the community.

After consultation with the school community and the Student Representative Council, School Council has developed a Dress Code that we believe provides choice for the students, allows students to safely engage in the many varied school activities, and caters for the financial constraints of families.

The Dress Code applies during school hours and when students are on school excursions or off campus programs. Students have the option of casual dress while travelling to and from school, but must change into school uniform during school hours.

Summer and winter uniforms, as well as sports uniforms are required to be worn.

Uniforms are available to be purchased through the school (Uniforms are displayed in the office).

The office also operates a second hand uniform store for parents.

The school uniform policy is clearly outlined in the school diary, under ‘Heatherwood School Dress Code’, at the front of the diary.

For students who are not wearing the school uniform at school the process is as follows

  • If it is the first time – they will be reminded of the school rule.
  • If it is a second time – the student will be given a school uniform infringement notice and may be given a second hand uniform to wear for the day if available.
  • If it is for the third time – parents will be contacted directly with the student present.-
  • Ongoing and repeated refusal to wear the uniform can result in suspension.

If for any reason a student does not have an appropriate uniform, families are welcome to discuss this with the school.

The school holds a number of free dress days (fund raising).  Notes are sent home indicating the day and appropriate dress expectations.

Students may be required to wear alternative clothing when involved in off campus programs.
